How long does a rooftop unit replacement take?
A straightforward single-unit change-out is usually a one-day job on site once the equipment is delivered and the crane is scheduled. Lead time on the unit itself is the longer variable and depends on tonnage, configuration and current manufacturer backlog. Multi-unit projects are typically staged so only one area of the building is affected at a time.
What if the new unit does not match the existing curb?
That is common when replacing older equipment, and it is handled with a curb adapter — a fabricated transition that lets a new footprint sit correctly on the existing curb without rebuilding the roof opening. We size and fabricate the adapter as part of the project, and we coordinate with your roofer on flashing so the warranty on your roof stays intact.
How long should a rooftop unit last in Central Texas?
Manufacturers generally cite fifteen to twenty years. In Central Texas, plan closer to the lower end unless the unit has been maintained consistently. Our cooling season is long, the units run hard, and sun exposure is relentless. Units on a documented preventive maintenance program routinely outlast neglected ones by several years, which is most of the argument for a maintenance agreement.
